Dear New York City, why are you SO mean to my hair?! Thinking about tips for healthy hair did NOT come easy. But NYC leaves me no choice but to do damage control when it comes to my hair.
I definitely do not have the healthiest hair. UGH. Some of that is my fault (I should be getting trims more often), but I blame a lot of this on the New York City weather. This summer, I made a conscious effort to really take care of my hair…especially since I tend to shoot a lot more content during the warmer months.
Today I wanted to share a few (super easy) tips for healthy hair during the summer.
Lay off the heat
It’s basically impossible to escape the summer heat in New York City – from humid air to stifling subways, my hair pretty much hates me. In an effort to keep my hair healthy, I decided to limit my use of heat on my hair. Typically, I get a blowout once a week and don’t use heat on it until I get my next one. I really don’t wash my hair all that much (it makes my hair more oily, TBH!), and when I do, I let it air dry.
Use a comb
I’ve realized that combs are way more gentle on your hair than a traditional brush. These combs help detangle your hair much easier than a regular brush or comb. If you have long hair, you definitely should consider a wide tooth comb. I know you’ve all felt like crying when your hair is being ripped out while using a normal brush. I’m tellin’ ya: Switch to wide tooth comb! Less hair falls out too (a major plus if you have thin hair). Moral of the story: Using a wide-tooth comb helps keep your hair healthy and free of breakage.
Give your hair some TLC
Thanks to Dove Intensive Repair Shampoo and Conditioner, a lot of my hair damage is prevented. You see, Dove Intensive Repair works to stop 90% of hair damage before it’s happened. Wash after wash, I’ve begun to see more visible signs of hair nourishment. And I love knowing I’m taking the right steps by using it so my hair will be less damaged in the future! Dove Intensive Repair uses three unique technologies that work together to actually make hair more resilient after each wash.
My favorite part is definitely the conditioning. Dove Intensive Repair Conditioner gives my hair such an amazing shine just after one wash! Much like the shampoo, the technologies in the conditioner really focus on targeting dryness and damage found in your hair. This is definitely something I’ve been looking for – especially when it comes to my split ends. I also noticed that it doesn’t leave my stringy or oily. I love that Dove Intensive Repair Shampoo and Conditioner helps smooth, strengthen and prevent breakage!
I’ve been using the product for about a week and a half, and I’ve definitely noticed a difference. They obviously work best together, but I think you already knew that. While I was visiting Matt’s parents this weekend in Westchester, I had to use different shampoo/conditioner. And I’m being 100% honest, I noticed there was a difference. My hair wasn’t as soft OR as shiny. That’s how I knew Dove Intensive Repair Shampoo and Conditioner was a winner.
Switch it up
Let’s get real for a minute: There’s NOTHING worse than waiting 7 minutes for the train and having your hair stick to your neck and back. During the summer months, I love wearing my hair in a high ponytail (much like in these photos). I usually ad some volume to the top of my hair and secure with some bobby pins. It not only keeps my hair off my skin, but also is another way to switch up my look.
Little things like these tips for healthy hair make a big difference! And now that you know about Dove Intensive Repair Shampoo and Conditioner, you have another reason to continue taking care of your hair and making it healthy! I hope you enjoyed these tips for healthy hair. Since I’m always up for learning some new life hacks, if you have any tips for healthy hair, I’d love to know more!
