The Subscription That Curbed My Shopping Addiction

I’ve known I’ve had a shopping problem for many, many years.

While I don’t always buy the most expensive things, I’m always looking to just buy something. I’ve always wanted something new, and if I want something, I buy it. When Alissa wrote this post about her experience with Rent the Runway Reserve, I decided to look into it a bit more.

What is RTR Unlimited?

RTR Unlimited is a subscription based rental service that costs $159/month. I can have up to 4 pieces rented at one time, and I can swap pieces at any time. I started with the 1 month $99 trial, and immediately saw the benefit of utilizing RTR (until my slip up with the Nordstrom sale where I placed WAY too many orders). I decided to continue on with my subscription, and am currently in my second month of using it.

Why are you choosing to pay this as opposed to the cheaper options?

For one, I like that there’s no time constraints. I like that I can have 1 dress for 3 weeks or a pair of pants for 1 day. Since I’m using this service to also shoot for the blog, I don’t always know my shooting schedule. That’s basically the main reason. I don’t mind paying a bit more for this convenience. I like having the ability to just swap out pieces at any time, no matter what. With the other subscription, it’s only monthly.

What have you rented from there so far?

There are SO many pieces on RTR that it often gets overwhelming. I try to start browsing the site by going through what I think I’m looking for (i.e. dress to shoot, pants for work, a certain top). I’ve really been looking for both things to wear to work and to shoot lately, so I’ve rounded up what I’ve tried so far.

Not everything fit right or looked good on me, but that’s what I love about the subscription. If you’re not into a certain piece, just pop it back in the mail and rent something new!

Do you recommend RTR Unlimited?

If you’re on the fence about committing to this service, I highly recommend it. Sure, it’s an added expense, but it’ll benefit you if:

  • You have a shopping problem like me
  • You’re bored with your wardrobe
  • Like $$$ pieces, but don’t have the budget

Krystal also recently wrote about RTR Unlimited, and I LOVED her perspective on just thinking about how much the clothes you’re renting would cost if you purchased them in a store/online. It makes SO much sense to go this route, especially since I’m one to get VERY bored of my closet VERY easily. I’m notorious for wearing things in my closet once, and then never wearing them again. Horrible, I know, but it’s true.

I would 100% recommend RTR Unlimited. It’s been a lot of fun to be able to swap out my closet whenever I want, try out some new trends, and really utilize what Rent the Runway has to offer! If you have any questions about the subscription, definitely let me know in the comments.
