Why It’s A Struggle For Me To Travel

This title probably throws you off a bit because, hi, I do actually like to travel. But there are some reasons why I dislike it.

Traveling is obviously a blessing. The experiences of traveling surpass a lot of other things. But for some reason, there’s a few reasons that keep me from traveling.

I’m a New Yorker

This is definitely a cop out of an answer, but that’s actually how I feel. Why leave (what I think) is the greatest city in the world? I know this isn’t the best way to live, but I definitely am so set in my ways here in New York. I love my routine, I love walking through my familiar city, and I just don’t like being out of the city.

I have a job

Duh, Dana, most people have jobs and still manage to travel. But for me, even when I’m out of work for one day, I feel ALL OUT OF SORTS. There’s always SO much going on, and I hate being so out of the loop while I’m away. I feel like I worry more about work on my days off than focusing on relaxing.

I worry about my blog

I obviously LOVE traveling with Allie for many reasons. We’re really good at traveling together, actually. And obviously, I know I’m going to get the best photos for my blog. Travel content is no joke. Sure, I could write about how amazing a place is, but if there isn’t stunning imagery to go with it, no one is going to care. Allie has done wonders for my travel content!

So I fear if I travel with Matt, we’re not going to get the same content. (Sorry babe, you might think you’re a good photographer, but I think we need some practice.) Also, I don’t want Matt to spend his entire vacation photographing me. When Allie and I go on trips, we both KNOW it’s for blogging purposes.

I’m not a planner

I stress myself out when I need to thoroughly plan things. Unfortunately, Matt isn’t a planner either. So imagine the two of us traveling and trying to leave the country? Red flags ALL OVER. When we’ve traveled together in the past, it’s been to other US destinations (Chicago, Pittsburgh, Newport, Boston, etc.). If we went outside the country, the whole language barrier would stress me out too. I’m also always stressed about being bored. I wouldn’t want to be in charge of planning a trip, and being held responsible if things went wrong or weren’t fun;)

I spend my money on other things

We all know I love to shop. I can’t help it. Although I did just start using Rent The Runway Unlimited (more on that later)…so basically I don’t spend money anymore (that’s a straight up lie). ANYWAY. Before I started saving earlier this year, I would just spend every blog check and every actual paycheck on STUFF (plus my loans and my other expenses). Now that I’m saving money, and buying less, I’m just torn on using  my savings to travel. Honestly, what the heck is a savings account for anyway? While I could be using that money to travel, I feel guilty spending it so quickly.

At the end of the day, I KNOW how important is it to travel. Trust me, I want to create all these amazing experiences and see the world. But when it comes time to actually planning a trip, I basically choke. UGH! What are some of your tips and tricks for not stressing yourself the F out while trying to plan a trip? LET ME KNOW ASAP!!!

  • Last night in my usual 6:30 @soulcycle class, @mantaszvinas said something that just stuck. He said, “Say your resolutions out loud.” And in that moment I realized something: I never said my resolution out loud to anyone. How am I supposed to be held accountable?

So in 2019, everything I do is going to have a purpose. Every blog post I publish, every Instagram post I curate, every email I send, every argument I make, every thing I put in my body. WHATEVER. It’s all going to have a PURPOSE. Resolutions could be heavy weight that is constantly on your mind — but that’s not what I want this year to be. 2019 is going to be another year of growth, happiness, success, and yes, probably even failure. But damn, I’m ready for it🙌🏼

Your turn. Say your resolutions out loud. Let’s hold each other accountable👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
