Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Buy & Wear Now: Slip Dresses

Slip dresses are kind of a no brainer. But I never thought I’d wear one.

Today’s post is going to be short and sweet because I’m STILL recovering from my girls’ weekend in Nashville. It really took a toll on my body 😉 Serious woof.

Thanks to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, I bit the bullet and ordered this dress. I wasn’t sure if it was going to look TOO much like a slip dress. I think the floral print has a lot to do with it not looking like usual slip dresses. I ordered one size up from my normal size (so a medium), because I was nervous about my hips not fitting into it.

When I put it on, it took me a second to figure out if I liked it on my body or not.

Obviously, I did.

When it comes to slip dresses, now I have a few simple rules to follow when I’m browsing.

  1. A lace trim is a must have. For some reason, I think the lace detail really makes or breaks slip dresses. It just feels a little more feminine, sexy and dressy.
  2. Order up a size. Definitely need to keep this in mind because my hips tend to take over.
  3. Patterns and prints work best. A lot of girls pull off slip dresses like NO other, but for my body type (short and stumpy), they just don’t work for me. I like being able to hide behind a little print or pattern.

I’m actually really excited to wear this with a suede moto jacket in the fall. But I’m sure you probably assumed I was already going to do that. It all goes back to buying good transitional pieces, and I’m 100% on board with this slip dress being one of them.

  • That slip is gorgeous on you, Dana! It flatters you so well, I hope you’re embracing your body (hips and all) – girls like me would kill to have some hips! But learning to embrace ALL body types for what they are, “flaws” and all! 🙂
